[PHP][MySQL]@ w zmiennej - zapytanie do bazy Opcje

tworzę zapytanie do mysql - pobieram dane,
Gdy testuję jest ok:

[PHP] pobierz, plaintext 
->where('email = "adres@mejlowy.pl"');
[PHP] pobierz, plaintext 

ale, gdy chcę podać konkretny mejl - już nie:

[PHP] pobierz, plaintext 
$mejl = 'adres@mejlowy.pl';
->where('email = ' . $mejl);
[PHP] pobierz, plaintext 

Otrzymuję komunikat: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MariaDB server version for the right syntax to use near '@mejlowy.pl'

Pomożecie?

Moim zdaniem to raczej jest tam coś w stylu ->where('email = ?', $majl); ale się nie dowiedziałem więcej.
