Tasks and Responsibilities:

SPIL GAMES is looking for a “developer-of-all-trades” to fill out the very successful OnRPG.com team. This person will develop and maintain the back end as well as the front end of our MMO web portal. In this role, you will work closely with the editorial team as the go-to person for development in the broadest sense of the word.

As the lead programmer, your input will play a major role in the creative direction and continued success of the MMO channel as a whole. As the MMO Portal Developer, you will be responsible for modifying existing PHP (CakeCMS), SQL, and CSS code and writing new code with a focus on improvements, performance, scalability, and maintainability. Additionally, you will participate in brainstorming sessions, quality assurance, community management, and monitoring. The core responsibilities of this position include:
• Modifying existing code to optimize usability, performance, scalability, and maintainability;
• Writing new code; and
• Participating in brainstorming sessions about quality assurance and community management.

 
Your Profile:

• HBO, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent
• At least 3 years of experience in a fast-paced online environment
• Solid programming and debugging skills
• Innovative, creative problem-solver
• Ability and desire to stay current with emerging trends in web technology
• Ability to work on a tight release schedule (weekly iterations)
• Excellent working knowledge of PHP
• Fluent in SQL and experience in database design, normalization, and optimization
• Strong skills in web application architecture; good knowledge of design patterns such as MVC
• Good knowledge of front-end web technologies, including HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and Ajax
• Good knowledge of Unix/Linux server environments
• Strong problem-solving and time-management skills that enable you to meet deadlines
• Good communication skills in English, both written and oral
• The following characteristics are not required, but are considered plusses:
o Experience with version-control and bug-tracking software
o Experience with social-network integration (Facebook/Twitter APIs)
o Experience administering and integrating forum software such as vBulletin
o Experience in administering and extending Content Management Systems (Specifically CakeCMS)
o Experience with optimizing websites for high traffic
o Experience in programming for dynamic user-driven websites (such as social networks)
o Good communication skills in Dutch
o Experience with developing HTML5
o Knowledge of optimizing websites for mobile browsers
o Knowledge of server administration
